hello,i heard some rumours in kathmandu that it is possible to ge to tibet without an organised tour. supposingly you can get a tibet permit and a china visa in katmandu (maybe with 2 persons?) , take the bus to the border, cross the border in a hired... ...full story at Lonely Planet
